Abstract

Mathematical anxiety, characterized by feelings of apprehension and fear towards mathematical tasks, is a significant obstacle in learning and performing mathematics. To address this issue, we propose the development of a comprehensive Mathematics Anxiety Scale (MAS) aimed at accurately measuring mathematical anxiety across various contexts and populations. Drawing upon established psychological measurement principles and insights from mathematics education research, this scale aims to provide a robust and reliable instrument for assessing mathematical anxiety. Through a rigorous process of item selection, validation, and psychometric analysis, the MAS seeks to offer educators, researchers, and practitioners a valuable tool for identifying and addressing mathematical anxiety effectively.
