Abstract

Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs) encompass a spectrum of life-threatening conditions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS). These reactions pose significant challenges in clinical management due to their rapid onset, diverse clinical presentations, and potential for systemic involvement. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management strategies for SCARs. Emphasis is placed on the importance of early recognition and withdrawal of the offending drug, supportive care, and pharmacological interventions tailored to specific SCAR subtypes. Additionally, emerging therapies and preventive measures are discussed to improve patient outcomes and reduce morbidity and mortality associated with SCARs.
