The exponential growth of online education has demanded innovative solutions that ensure scalability, personalization, and interactivity. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly chatbots, are increasingly employed to support learners in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other scalable digital learning environments. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of AI-powered chatbots, focusing on their theoretical foundations, algorithmic design, and applications in online education. The article highlights how Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) contribute to chatbot development. It also presents sample algorithms, pseudocode, and practical use cases demonstrating their effectiveness. Furthermore, the challenges of implementing chatbots at scale, such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and infrastructural limitations, are critically examined. The study concludes by emphasizing the potential of AI chatbots as transformative agents in the future of scalable online education.
