Abstract

This research explores commonly used English phrases in academic writing, focusing on their grammatical structure, contextual meaning, and communicative function. Academic writing requires clarity, precision, and formal tone, which are achieved through standardized expressions such as linking phrases, hedging devices, and citation signals. The study highlights how these phrases contribute to cohesion and coherence, allowing writers to express arguments logically, present evidence effectively, and engage critically with existing literature. The analysis also provides practical examples and classification of useful expressions for academic essays, research papers, and theses.
