Abstract

This article explores the cognitive advantages of bilingual students, examining how bilingualism affects mental processes such as attention, memory, problem-solving, and creativity. It defines bilingual students, outlines the historical development of research in this area, and highlights the main advantages and disadvantages of bilingualism. Key researchers, including Ellen Bialystok, Peal & Lambert, François Grosjean, and Jim Cummins, are discussed, along with their contributions to understanding bilingual cognitive development. The article emphasizes that while bilingual students may face some linguistic challenges, the long-term cognitive, academic, and social benefits are substantial.
