THE SCIENTIFIC IMPORTANCE OF ECOLOGICAL MONITORING

In our changing world, citizens and the public play a critical role in answering important scientific questions. The growing field of environmental science depends on active volunteers who collect data at the local level to study scientific questions in the wider region. Their contributions deepen scientific knowledge, help monitor natural systems in times of rapid environmental change, and support findings that can inform conservation practices and policies. Citizen volunteers of all ages satisfy their curiosity and develop their skills as they learn about the organisms they study and how they work.
