Abstract

This article examines the cytokine profile of oral fluid in patients with chronic periodontitis associated with coronary heart disease. Levels of proinflammatory (TNF-α, IL-2) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) cytokines, as well as lactoferrin, were analyzed. Increased concentrations of proinflammatory mediators and decreased IL-10 levels were found, indicating a significant imbalance in local immunity and chronic inflammation. These findings highlight the pathogenetic role of cytokine imbalances in the comorbidity of chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease and can be used to support combination therapy.
