This scientific article presents a comprehensive analysis of modern approaches to the surgical treatment of peritonitis—one of the most severe and life-threatening conditions in abdominal surgery. The main etiological factors, classification, and pathogenetic mechanisms of peritonitis development are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the principles of surgical tactics, the choice of surgical intervention depending on the type and extent of the inflammatory process, and the use of traditional and minimally invasive treatment methods. The role of programmed relaparotomies and staged debridement of the abdominal cavity in severe purulent peritonitis is analyzed. Modern aspects of postoperative patient management aimed at reducing mortality and complication rates are discussed. The presented data confirm that timely and adequate surgical intervention combined with intensive care is a key factor in improving treatment outcomes for patients with peritonitis.
