Abstract

This study is devoted to a historical-regional analysis of the ideological role of the press and propaganda tools in the territory of Uzbekistan during 1917–1938. With the establishment of Soviet power, the press became one of the main instruments for politically and ideologically reshaping society. Through newspapers and journals, leaflets, wall publications, and mass propaganda materials, Bolshevik ideology was introduced to broad segments of the population. The research reveals that the press functioned not only as a means of disseminating information but also as a mechanism for shaping political consciousness, rejecting traditional social values, and forming a new “socialist worldview.” The study also analyzes how issues related to the national question, religion, traditions, and culture were covered in local press publications and how they were reinterpreted according to the requirements of Soviet ideology. Particular attention is paid to the popularization of concepts such as “class enemy” and “enemy of the people” through the press and to the processes used to justify repressive policies. The results of the research provide a deeper understanding of the role of the press and propaganda tools in strengthening ideological control in Uzbek society and their long-term socio-political consequences.
