FOOD INDUSTRY AND ITS IMPORTANCE

The food industry represents one of the most essential sectors of the global economy, linking agricultural production with processing, distribution, and consumption. This article analyzes the multidimensional significance of the food industry in ensuring food security, stimulating economic development, and promoting public health and environmental sustainability. Particular attention is given to technological innovations, sustainability challenges, and the institutional frameworks shaping the modern food system. In addition, the study examines the development of the food industry in Uzbekistan using recent statistical indicators related to agricultural production, processing capacity, and economic contribution. The findings demonstrate that the food industry not only guarantees the availability of food products but also contributes significantly to employment, value-added creation, and national economic growth. However, the sector faces challenges related to environmental sustainability, supply chain efficiency, and public health concerns associated with highly processed foods. Strengthening technological modernization, improving processing capacity, and promoting sustainable practices are essential for the long-term development of the food industry both globally and in Uzbekistan.
