Abstract

The article examines the verbalization of cultural concepts in English and Uzbek literary texts and the transformations they undergo in translation. The study aims to identify lexical, figurative, and symbolic mechanisms through which concepts are represented and to explain their semantic and pragmatic restructuring in the target text. Descriptive, comparative, contextual, semantic, and translation-oriented methods were applied to a sample corpus of literary passages. The analysis demonstrates that concepts such as home, honor, hospitality, and restraint are realized not only through dictionary words but also through metaphor, characterization, narrative detail, and culture-specific references. Translational adequacy depends on the cultural load of the concept and on the interpretive competence of the target readership. An integrated model combining contextual explicitation, selective adaptation, and preservation of the semantic core is proposed. [1], [3], [4], [8]
