Abstract

This article explores the etymology of “onomastics”, the academic study of names, by tracing the linguistic roots of the term and examining the historical development of the field. The article also highlights the importance of etymology in onomastics, emphasizing how the study of name origins sheds light on linguistic, cultural, social, and historical processes.
