Abstract

The availability of real language data from diverse sources has been intimately linked to the growth of corpus linguistics. Because of their accessibility, diversity, and depiction of modern language use, media texts have been especially important among these sources. The creation and growth of language corpora is facilitated by the abundance of linguistic content found in newspapers, periodicals, television shows, online news portals, and social media platforms. This study explores the importance of media texts to linguistic research and their influence in the development of corpus linguistics. The study examines academic publications on corpus linguistics, media discourse, and corpus-based language studies using a qualitative literature review methodology. The results show that media texts have encouraged breakthroughs in computer linguistics and natural language processing, improved research on language variety and change, and made it easier to create massive electronic corpora. The study comes to the conclusion that media texts continue to have a significant impact on the advancement of corpus-based approaches and are still among the most valuable resources for corpus construction.
