Abstract

English has become the dominant global language due to historical, economic, and technological factors. David Crystal, in English as a Global Language, highlights its role in international communication, business, science, and education. He argues that English's widespread use is not due to linguistic superiority but to historical colonization and globalization. The language's adaptability and integration into digital platforms further solidify its global status. However, Crystal also warns of linguistic homogenization and the potential loss of minority languages. Understanding English is now essential for global participation, yet preserving linguistic diversity remains crucial.
